Eco fee
When you buy a piece of furniture, a lamp, a mattress, a kitchen, bedding textiles or a rug, you pay an eco-fee that helps fund the recycling of your old items.
What is the eco-fee?
The eco-fee is a contribution added to the price of bedding, new furniture, textiles, and electrical and electronic equipment such as lamps and bulbs. It is paid by the consumer and forwarded to the corresponding eco-organization: Ecomaison for furniture, Refashion for textiles, or Ecologic for electrical and electronic equipment.
Why?
It is used to finance the sorting, recycling and recovery of used mattresses and furniture.
How does it work?
Ecomaison sets up collection and recovery solutions in partnership with local authorities, social and solidarity economy associations (Réseau des ressourceries and Emmaüs), and furniture professionals.
Thanks to this system, since 2013 Ecomaison has already managed over 10 million tonnes of used furniture and bedding; items or materials whose recycling has prevented the burial of the equivalent of 1,000 Eiffel Towers of waste. Previously, 55% of discarded furniture was buried. Ten years later, it is now less than 3%. With 800,000 tonnes per year, Ecomaison has become the leading supplier of recycled wood in France.
Who is Ecomaison?
Ecomaison is a state-approved eco-organization that organizes the sorting, collection, reuse and recycling of household objects and materials, from foundations to finishes. Its mission is to collect and recover household objects and materials by giving them a second life, either by donating, repairing, recycling or using them as a source of energy.
